KIEV, March 24. /TASS/. Ukrainian law enforcers are taking measures to detain another suspect in organizing Thursday’s murder of former Russian lawmaker Denis Voronenkov, a senior Ukrainian interior ministry official said.

"A series of investigative measures is under way to detain a second man, who took part in organizing this murder. All information on the issue is withheld for investigative purposes," Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor to the republic’s interior minister, said in a 112.Ukraine TV channel broadcast Thursday.

Ukraine’s UNN agency said citing an anonymous source that the shooter, who gunned down Voronenkov in central Kiev, carried documents confirming his participation in a military conflict. However, the source said the documents could be a fake.

Larisa Sargan, a spokeswoman for the country’s chief prosecutor, said earlier Thursday that the perpetrator carried documents confirming that he was a citizen of Ukraine, including an official ID of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Former communist member of Russia’s State Duma, Denis Voronenkov, was killed in a shootout in Ukraine’s capital Kiev on Thursday. An unknown gunman approached Voronenkov, who was leaving the Premier-Palace Hotel with his bodyguards, and fired several shots from the TT pistol. In a shootout that followed, the assailant and a bodyguard were injured and taken to hospital.

In December 2014, Voronenkov was stripped of his lawmaker immunity over a criminal case on a forcible takeover of a building in downtown Moscow. In October 2016, Voronenkov left Russia for Ukraine and later received Ukrainian citizenship. In February 2017, Russia’s Investigative Committee put him on the international wanted list.
