"Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong", the president has noted

WASHINGTON, March 3. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump called the attacks of the US Democratic Party against Attorney General Jeff Sessions "a witch-hunt".

As stated in a written statement, Trump, posted on Facebook, "the Democrats are overplaying their hand."

"They lost the election and now, they have lost their grip on reality. The real story is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total witch hunt!" Trump said.

"Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional," Trump wrote in his facebook statement.

Trump meant Sessions’ answers during his confirmation hearing at the Judiciary committee to become attorney general. When asked about possible contacts between members of President Trump’s campaign and representatives of Moscow Sessions said he had not had any contacts with Russians during last year’s election campaign.

However, on Wednesday, Washington Post reported that in July and September Sessions had meeting with Russian ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak.

Sessions said that those meetings did not concern the elections in the US. When the meetings with Kislyak took place Sessions was Alabama senator. He said that those working meetings concerned armed forces and were held together with meetings with other ambassadors accredited in Washington.
