KIEV, February 19. /TASS/. The situation in central Kiev has stabilized after Sunday’s clashes between radicals and the police, a TASS correspondent reported from the site.

Peaceful rallies on the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of the Maidan events continue in Kreshchatik, Kiev’s central street. Police and national guards are protecting law and order.

About a thousand of people gathered in Kiev’s central Independence Square, known as Maidan Nezalezhnosti, or simply Maidan, on Sunday to honor the memory of those killed here in riots three years ago. Among those who came to the Maidan on Sunday were activists of the so-called volunteer battalions, or paramilitary groups, that organized blockade of coal supplies from Donbass on January 25. Later on, some 500 protesters marched to the presidential administration building demanding the authorities support the blockade of Donbass. They planned to hitch tents and spend the night there.

In the evening, the protesters tried to break through police cordons near the National Bank and the presidential administration building. Clashes with police were reported. Later on, the protesters returned to the Independence Square, where they also attempted to break police cordons. Police detained five people.

Kiev’s police chief Yuri Zozulya said what has happened in Kiev on Sunday was a mere "provocation."

According to the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, ten people were hurt in the clashes. One man received a serious head injury.
