Ukraine's PM says he believes that "Yulia Timoshenko is the mother of Ukraine’s economic weakness, the destruction of independence, corruption, populism and inefficiency"

KIEV, February 14. /TASS/. Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman said on Tuesday the activity of the country’s former premier and now leader of the Batkivshchina faction Yulia Timoshenko was the cause of Ukraine’s economic weakness.

"I believe that Yulia Timoshenko is the mother of Ukraine’s economic weakness, the destruction of independence, corruption, populism and inefficiency," the premier told a Cabinet meeting.

"She is a true mom who has done everything over the past 20 years to destroy Ukraine but there has always been someone who has impeded her effort," he said.

Groisman also called all of Timoshenko’s accusations earlier voiced against him as "new total lies."

"I understand that she has a very strong lust for power and it is a goal in itself for her to get to it," the premier said.

Deputies from the Batkivshchina party submitted a draft resolution on Groisman’s resignation to the country’s parliament on February 10. The document was registered and posted on the parliament’s official website but was deleted several hours later.

As the parliament’s office explained, the resolution on the premier’s resignation was struck off the register as it failed to comply with the country’s Constitution.

In turn, Timoshenko said she was filing a lawsuit against the country’s president, premier and parliament speaker and accused them of anti-constitutional actions as this bill had been withdrawn from the register.

The Batkivshchina faction leader also mentioned a number of reasons for the resignation of the government’s chairman, including the GDP’s 50% fall in dollar terms since Groisman’s approval as the premier, and also hyperinflation, the destruction of small business, the rise in housing and utilities bills and lower social standards.
