Ukrainian media said earlier that Biden’s visit was probably aimed at getting his son Hunter’s affairs in Ukraine in order

KIEV, January 16. /TASS/. Kiev is ready to effectively cooperate with the new US administration after Donald Trump takes office, Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with US Vice President Joseph Biden.

Biden, in turn, said he hoped that the incoming administration would be a strong supporter and partner of Ukraine. He also said that the Minsk agreements remained the only viable framework in terms of resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

When speaking on Russia, Biden said that sanctions must remain in place until Russia fully implemented its commitments under the Minsk agreements.

However, during Biden’s visit no initiatives have been put forward concerning bilateral cooperation. Ukrainian media said earlier that Biden’s visit was probably aimed at getting his son Hunter’s affairs in Ukraine in order.

According to media reports, since 2014, Hunter Biden has been a board member of the Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma Holdings belonging to Ukraine’s former Environment Minister Nikolai Zlochevsky. The UK suspects him of being involved in corruption and money-laundering. His assets in the UK were frozen but had to be unfrozen as the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office had refused to provide necessary documents. However, after Donald Trump takes office on January 20, the investigation into this case could be resumed, media say.
