Kazakhstan promises to do everything possible to host intra-Syrian talks in Astana
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister earlier confirmed the country's readiness to host the talks on establishing peace in Syria
ASTANA, January 11. /TASS/. Kazakhstan will do everything possible for hosting the intra-Syrian talks in the country’s capital of Astana, scheduled for January 23, Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev told reporters on Wednesday.
"At the moment, thorough preparations are underway," Ashikbayev said. When speaking on the date of the talks, he noted that "the work is underway meaning to hold the talks on the previously announced date (January 23), in late January, at least."
At the same time, Ashikbayev stressed that in this regard, Kazakharan "is providing a venue" while the interested parties were to "determine the format of the talks." "As far as our role is concerned, we are doing everything possible," the deputy foreign minister concluded.
On Tuesday, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov said during the UN Security Council’s open debate that the country’s authorities had once again confirmed their readiness to host the talks on establishing peace in Syria.
