Situation with human rights in Ukraine close to catastrophic ― Russian Foreign Ministry
"Many problems persist, in particular, the economic blockade of Donbass, hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons, media censorship, xenophobia and neo-Nazism," Konstantin Dolgov said
MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. The situation with human rights in Ukraine remains close to catastrophic, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and Supremacy of Law Konstantin Dolgov said.
Making a speech at the Federation Council’s session on constitutional legislature and state building, Dolgov said, "The situation with human rights in this country (Ukraine) remains catastrophic. Many problems persist, in particular, the economic blockade of Donbass, hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons, media censorship, xenophobia and neo-Nazism, bullying and persecution of unfavorable politicians, aggressive actions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate."
Dolgov noted that "international organizations state the absence of lawfulness in Ukraine, systematic use of tortures, illegal arrests and reprisals against unfavorable persons by security and law enforcement agencies."
"If Kiev does not fulfil its multiple international obligations in the sphere of human rights and restoring the supremacy of law, normal and decent life of people in this country will be impossible," he concluded.
