German top diplomat says Russia, US should come to terms on ceasefire regime in Aleppo
The delivery of humanitarian aid to the region should be one of the priorities, German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier said
BRUSSELS, December 12. /TASS/. Russia and the US should continue consultations on a ceasefire regime in the Aleppo region, German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier said upon arriving for the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels.
"The talks in Geneva are going on, the Americans and the Russians should continue their attempts to reach an agreement on the cessation of hostilities," Steinmeier said adding that the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region should be one of the priorities.
He added that an agreement on the cessation of hostilities could help establish a ceasefire regime. According to the German top diplomat, the world community should keep on trying to organize a humanitarian corridor in Aleppo and other Syrian regions.
On Sunday, consultations on the situation in Syria’s Aleppo between Russian and US military experts and diplomats concluded in Geneva, the parties failed to reach a final agreement on the militants’ pullout from eastern Aleppo. A diplomatic source familiar with the talks told TASS that the parties would continue to exchange views through diplomatic channels.
