GENEVA, December 6. /TASS/. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has extended condolences to the families of the Russian medics killed in Syria’s Aleppo, also condemning attacks on hospitals.

"Attacking hospitals are unacceptable, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives," Magne Barth, head of the ICRC regional delegation in Moscow told Tass on Tuesday.

"Attacking medical personnel and sick and wounded is forbidden under international humanitarian law," he went on, noting that "sadly, this is not the first time that hospitals have come under attack in Syria, and this is not the first time that medical personnel's need for protection has been violated".

What has happened in Aleppo, "again shows that there is no respect for the special status of the medical mission," he noted.

"These kinds of attacks should not be happening, regardless of who is responsible," Magne Barth said. "We take these incidents extremely seriously and follow them up directly with whoever is responsible, as part of our confidential dialogue with all sides," he summed up.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that two Russian female medics were killed and one more medic was wounded when the hospital was shelled by opposition militants on December 5. According to the ministry, the makeshift hospital came under artillery fire when medics were receiving local residents.
