Turkish PM praises Moscow, Ankara efforts in fight against terrorism
The Turkish PM notes that relations between Moscow and Ankara have undergone a difficult period
GORKI, December 6. /TASS/. Russia and Turkey play an important role in combating terrorism, Turkish Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim, said during the talks with his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev.
"Turkey and Russia are of great significance as two important states not only in terms of relations between the two countries but also in the fight against terrorism and in ensuring peace," he said.
The Turkish prime minister noted that relations between Moscow and Ankara had undergone a difficult period. "After that negative experience during the past year we are planning to develop our relations even further. That is possible," he said.
Turkey urges to accelerate the pace of developing bilateral cooperation with Russia, according to Yildirim. "Lost time" in development of bilateral ties should be redeemed, the Prime Minister of Turkey said.
"We are moving step by step. These rates should be accelerated a bit; we want to underscore this exactly," Yildirim said. The Prime Minister of Turkey also appreciated contribution of Russia’s Prime Minister to steps for normalization of bilateral ties, starting from this August.
Russia and Turkey has the potential for boosting bilateral trade and economic ties, including via the implementation of big projects, Medvedev said at the talks with his Turkish counterpart.
According to Medvedev, the two countries historically have an impressive volume of trade ties, though it has declined recently. "We are able to boost them, implement big joint projects, which are numerous," he said, adding that the meeting between the prime ministers is aimed at "boosting economic, investment, humanitarian cooperation in all sectors."
