US Senate passes bill to extend Iran sanctions
A total of 99 senators voted in favor, one abstained
WASHINGTON, December 2. /TASS/. The US Senate has almost unanimously passed a bill to extend sanctions against Iran by another 10 years.
A total of 99 senators voted in favor, one abstained Thursday.
The document authorizes the US president to impose restrictions on individuals and entities involved in the ballistic missile program, supporting terrorism and human rights abuses. It is yet to be signed by US President Barack Obama.
Sources in his administration earlier said that the president would not support initiatives that might undermine the nuclear deal with Tehran. However, White House spokesman Josh Earnest failed to give any definite answer about the future of the bill.
"We'll take a look at what bill is passed and determine whether or not the President will sign it," he told reporters.
The Hill said, citing unnamed White House sources, that the president is likely to sign the bill.
