Damascus rejects all initiatives that could assist the terrorists, a diplomat says
MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Damascus is opposed to proposals to create autonomous areas within the country, in particular, in Aleppo, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said on Wednesday.
"Staffan de Mistura (UN special envoy) made some proposals during his visit to Damascus, including on the creation of an autonomy in eastern Aleppo. All of them were rejected," the diplomat said.
"The Syrian government is opposed to any proposals on creating autonomous zones in the country," he added.
Haddad said Damascus rejects all initiatives that could assist the terrorists.
"Ceasefire agreements that were made earlier did not help solve the problem and terrorists are using civilians as a ‘living shield’ and continue mortar attacks," he said.
