FSB detains five members of IS-affiliated group suspected of plotting terror attacks
Two homemade explosive devices weighing around ten kilograms of TNT equivalent each were seized
MOSCOW, November 15. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has arrested five members of a criminal group affiliated with the Islamic State (IS, terror group outlawed in Russia), suspected of plotting terror attacks in the Republic of Ingushetia and Moscow, the FSB press service told TASS.
"Russia’s Federal Security Service has thwarted the activities of a criminal group established to carry out terror and extremist attacks in the Republic of Ingushetia and Moscow. The group is affiliated with the Islamic State international terrorist organization," the press service said.
Five firearms, two homemade explosive devices containing around 10 kilograms of TNT equivalent each, homemade electric detonators, some components of explosive devices and various types of ammunition have been seized from the suspected terrorists.
A criminal case has been opened against the arrested persons for participating in the activities of a terror group outlawed in Russia.
According to the FSB press service, in October, the group leader, IS emissary R. Sautiyev, and five of his accomplices were killed during a counter-terrorism operation in Ingushetia. "The law enforcers suffered no losses, the operational and investigational activities are still underway," the press service added.
On November 12, FSB announced that 10 members of an IS-affiliated terror group had been arrested in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The group members, citizens of Central Asian countries, had been plotting terror attacks in Moscow and St. Petersburg using firearms and homemade explosive devices, four of which were IEDs. In addition, firearms, ammunition and communication means were seized from the arrested.
