BERLIN, November 11. /TASS/. German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has said it is necessary to agree on longer humanitarian pauses in Syria’s Aleppo.

"The issue at hand is arranging humanitarian pauses that would last more than 10 hours," the minister told N-V network, adding that currently there is not enough time to deliver humanitarian aid.

"As a next step, we will try - and for that end we are in close contact with the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura - to eventually deliver the necessary humanitarian aid to the eastern part of Aleppo at an early date," he added. According to Steinmeier, "they are running out of foodstuffs there." The minister noted that "the fact that Eastern Aleppo is currently not the target of bombing raids may help do this."

He added that consultations on a ceasefire should begin after the provision of humanitarian aid and the extension of the pauses.

The latest humanitarian pause in Aleppo was in effect for 10 hours on November 4.
