LJUBLJANA, November 8. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko believes Mikheil Saakashvili, who tendered resignation as Ukraine’s Odessa region governor, has opted in favor of the Ukrainian opposition.

Speaking at a news conference in the Slovenian capital city of Ljubljana, where he is on an official visit, Poroshenko noted the Saakashvili’s statements show that he has made a political choice in favor of the opposition. "I hope the Ukrainian government will accept his resignation and allow him continue his political activities in our country," he said.

The voting on Saakashvili’s resignation will be held on November 9, he added.

In his words, his decision to step down stemmed from on the fact that he found it impossible to combat corruption, which was said to be traced to top officials in the executive branch including President Poroshenko himself.
