Activity of Klyuchevskoy volcano in Russian Far East subsides after 7 months of eruption
According to satellite data, last ash spews were registered on November 3-4, scientists said
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, November 8. /TASS/. The Klyuchevsky volcano that was erupting in Russia’s Kamchatka since April 3 has become considerably less active, the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) said on Tuesday.
"The Klyuchevskoy volcano has become considerably less active. According to satellite data, last ash spews were registered on November 3-4. No lava flows were registered on the volcano since November 3," KVERT said in a statement.
Before that, the volcano spewed ash to up to eight kilometers in the air once or twice per day, and lava flows were registered on the slopes. Scientists cannot yet say for sure whether the eruption has completely stopped or the volcano just "fell asleep" for some time.
The Klyuchevskoy is the highest active volcano in Eurasia. Its height changes from 4,750to 4,850 meters above the sea level. There are currently four active volcanoes on the territory of the Russian Far Eastern Kamchatka Krai — Klyuchevskoy, Shiveluch, Bezymyanny, and Karymsky.
