German diplomat urges Russia and US to revive September’s Syrian deal
According to Schaefer, in order to resolve the situation the regional players, the US and Russia should show willingness to fulfill their part of the obligations
BERLIN, November 2. /TASS/. The German Foreign Ministry is convinced that Russia and the US should breathe new life into the September deal on the Syrian crisis, the ministry’s spokesman, Martin Schaefer, said on Wednesday.
"We have no solution in sight after November 4, the deadline which the Russian government announced it would be suspending the air raids," he said. "For that we need something more, ideally, the resumption of the September US-Russian agreements."
According to Schaefer, in order to resolve the situation the regional players, the US and Russia should show willingness to fulfill their part of the obligations.
On September 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry agreed on a package of five documents to ensure the cessation of hostilities in Syria and lay the foundation for a resumption of the political process. These documents included agreements on separating the opposition from the terrorists, procedures for responding to truce violations and the delivery of humanitarian aid. The US later refused to comply with the agreements and announced its suspension of work with Russia on its part of this deal.
