Relatives of Sinai air crash victims to receive over $6.4 mln in compensation
Russian insurance company Ingosstrakh has fulfilled its obligations to all the victims’ relatives eligible to receive mandatory insurance payments, except for one family
MOSCOW, October 31. /TASS/. Insurance compensation payouts to the victims of the Sinai plane crash have been completed, and the disbursements are in line with the mandatory civil liability insurance of the transporter totaling 404.8 mln rubles (roughly $6.4 mln), Ingosstrakh Communications Director Karen Asoyan told TASS.
"Ingosstrakh has fulfilled its obligations to all the victims’ relatives eligible to receive mandatory insurance payments, except for one family. A payout of 2 mln rubles (roughly $31,600) was not made as the relatives still have not approached Ingosstrakh with a relevant application though notifications have been repeatedly sent to their address. We assume the application will be submitted," Asoyan stated.
On October 31, 2015, a flight by the Russian airline Kogalymavia left from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to the Russian city of St. Petersburg. About 23 minutes after take-off contact with the place was lost. There were 217 passengers and seven crew members on board. That said, Ingosstrakh had insured the carrier’s liability with respect to passengers.
An investigative and operational group was immediately formed to look into the circumstances of the crash. That same day, experts from Russia’s Investigation Committee, with experience in investigating plane crashes, set off to the crash site on a special Emergencies Ministry’s flight to take part in the probe conducted by Egypt’s competent bodies.
