Indian sherpa says terrorism will be key issue at upcoming BRICS summit
The summit will open in Goa on October 15 with an informal lunch of the BRICS leaders
NEW DELHI, October 14. /TASS/. The problem of terrorism willl be one of the key issues due to be discussed at the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit in India’s Goa state on October 15-16, Amar Sinha, the Indian External Affairs Ministry’s Economic Relations Secretary and India’s BRICS Sherpa, told reporters on Friday.
"We will be looking at the global economic and political situation, and obviously terrorism is a very important part of that," NDTV network quotes him as saying. According to the TV channel, the final summit declaration is expected to include condemnation of terrorism in all its forms.
Russian presidential foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov earlier said that the summit would open in Goa on October 15 with an informal lunch of the BRICS leaders. On October 16, they will meet in a narrow format. After that they will hold a meeting in the diplomatic luncheon format to discuss efforts to expand contacts. The BRICS leaders will also meet with representatives of the BRICS Business Council to discuss the expansion of trade, ways of bringing the five countries’ economies closer together and launching new projects.
The participants in the summit are to adopt the final declaration, the joint roadmap for the coming year to implement the declaration. A number of multilateral interagency documents, including a Memorandum on cooperation between the BRICS member-countries’ development banks and the New Development Bank of BRICS, are due to be signed in the presence of the leaders.
