Serbia’s honorary consul in St. Petersburg says Russia and Serbia must develop bilateral relations

ST. PETERSBURG, October 13. /TASS/. Serbia’s hypothetical admission to the European Union will not yield any advantages, Serbia’s honorary consul in St. Petersburg, Gennady Timchenko, told TASS First Deputy Director-General in an interview.

Serbia’s current economic position is grave, he said.

"As far as I understand, it is hard to exist in Europe without being integrated in the European economic system," Timchenko said. "But I believe that Serbia will not gain anything from it (hypothetical admission - TASS)."

"Industries will begin to be closed down. There will occur what has happened in Ukraine," Timchenko speculated. "I believe that the pro-European trend is not very correct."

Timchenko believes that Russia and Serbia must develop bilateral relations.

"I am certain that we will be able to build economic relations in a way that would benefit Serbia and Russia," he said.
