Chinese general: US encourages Asia-Pacific countries to develop nuclear missile programs
According to the general, the US is developing a global missile shield system as a means to achieve global supremacy
BEIJING, October 11. /TASS/. The implementation of US plans on building the global missile shield and missile defense system in the Asia-Pacific region forces the countries in the region to develop their missile-nuclear potential, believes a senior Chinese military official.
"The US disregards the interests of the Asia-Pacific region’s countries in ensuring national security. In particular, by using the Korean Peninsula issue they accelerate the development of the missile defense system in the Asia-Pacific Region and comprehensively increase the possibilities of a defense system jointly with Japan," Maj. Gen. Cai Jun, the deputy chief of operations at China's Central Military Commission Joint Staff Department, said at a joint press conference with Russia’s Defense Ministry.
"The deployment of THAAD system in South Korea does not contribute to solving the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula. Still, the US continues extending the scope of deploying missile systems what forces other countries to advance their missile-nuclear potential and increases the risk of regional conflicts," the military official said.
Tool to achieve global supremacy
According to the general, the US is developing a global missile shield system as a means to achieve global supremacy.
"The implementation of the plans for developing the missile shield is destroying the strategic balance and stability and also aggravating the situation in the sphere of global security. Beginning with the development of the SDI [Strategic Defense Initiative] program and ending with the ‘national missile defense’ and the ‘ABM Theater of Operations,’ the United States was consistently creating a missile shield system, considering it as a means of achieving and consolidating its global supremacy," the Chinese general said.
The Pentagon currently possesses powerful armed forces, the official pointed out.
"At present, the United States has powerful forces of general designation and also has considerable qualitative supremacy in the sphere of strategic nuclear forces. In aggregate, these components comprise modern armed forces, making it possible to implement the concept of a ‘prompt global strike," Cai Jun said.
New arms race
The Chinese general has also slammed Washington for fueling difficulties in the non-proliferation regime.
"The situation in the nuclear non-proliferation sphere has been getting more and more complicated with each coming day which is, in fact, the negative result of the United States’ policy of global domination," the general said.
According to Cai Jun, the Pentagon’s plans to develop a global missile defense system will provoke a new arms race. "By implementing its plan, Washington would set up a missile defense system that would enhance the capacities of the US offensive forces, but it also would instigate an arms race, even in space," the Chinese general stressed.
