Syrian ambassador to Russia confirms deployment of S-300 complex in Syria
The ambassador stated that one of the reasons for the deployment of S-300 air defense missile complex was concern for the security of Russian troops in Syria
MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/. S-300 air defense missile complex has been deployed in Syria again for the purpose of defending Russian troops and rebuffing any threats that may come from terrorists, the Syrian ambassador to Russia, Riyad Haddad told Rossiya 24 channel on Thursday.
"S-300 complex is really deployed in Syria," he said.
"Its deployment there pursues the goal of assuring the security of Russian troops that are in Syria and helping the Syrian Army to fight with terrorism."
Thus the S-300 "also helps the Syrian Army to defend itself from any threats that may come from the terrorists," the ambassador said.
Aleppo crisis
"The Syrian Army units are holding positions near Aleppo, in Eastern Aleppo, and Jabhat al-Nusra is also there," he said. "We can see quite plainly very many people die in the areas where the grouping is found."
The ambassador recalled in this connection President Bashar al-Assad had promised to amnesty the members of militant groupings who would decide to lay down arms voluntarily.
The special envoy of the UN Secretary General for Syria, Staffan de Mistura made a proposal earlier to evacuate the Jabhat al-Nusra militants from Aleppo to Idlib.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in this connection De Mistura’s proposal deserved attention.
