Kerry: US has not suspended de-confliction efforts with Russian military to combat IS
The top diplomat stressed that the US remained "unalterably opposed to Daesh and al-Nusra"
BRUSSELS, October 4. /TASS/. Washington has not suspended de-confliction efforts between the US and Russian military in order to fight against the Islamic State terrorist group, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Tuesday.
"We have not suspended de-confliction efforts between our military and the Russian military in order to enhance our fight against Daesh," Kerry said.
"We remain unalterably opposed to Daesh and al-Nusra," he added stressing that a political solution is the only way to end the bloodshed in Syria.
Rejecting diplomacy in Syria conflict resolution
John Kerry accused Moscow and Damascus of giving up diplomacy in favor of a military solution of the Syrian conflict.
"The Syrian regime and Russia seem to have rejected diplomacy and further on seem try to pursue a military victory," Kerry said.
"I want to be clear that we are not giving up on the Syrian people and we are not abandoning the pursuit of peace," he added.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier on Tuesday that Russia would continue efforts aimed at the Syrian conflict resolution after Washington’s decision to suspend ceasefire talks with Moscow. He added that the US and Russian agreements on Syria were ruined by those seeking a military scenario.
