ANKARA, October 1. /TASS/. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the country needs a new constitution.
"We should without delays adopt a new Constitution," he said at the opening of the parliament's session after a summer break. "At least, we should adopt major changes to the Constitution."
According to Erdogan, he appreciates the first steps in the preparation of the Constitution made after July 15.
Erdogan has repeatedly stated the need for a new Constitution to replace the current one adopted in 1982 after the military coup in Turkey in 1980. The work on the draft was resumed on the initiative of the ruling party after a coup attempt in July.
