Washington does not fulfill its commitments on Syria — Russian Foreign Ministry
The spokeswoman noted that Russia intends to call for a UN Security Council emergency meeting so that Washington provides an official explanation of its actions in Syria
MOSCOW, September 18. /TASS/. US airstrikes at the positions of Syrian government forces near Deir ez-Zor demonstrate Washington’s reluctance to fulfill their obligations on peaceful settlement in Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Rossiya 24 TV channel on Sunday.
"This leads to the idea that Washington, which assumed commitments on disengaging the so-called moderate opposition from terrorists, dodges fulfilling its pledges or is just unable to fulfill them," Zakharova said.
The spokeswoman noted that Russia intends to call for a UN Security Council emergency meeting so that Washington provides an official explanation of its actions in Syria. A source in UN told TASS earlier that the meeting may take place at 5pm local time (2am Moscow time). The emergency meeting has not yet been included in the work program of the UN Security Council.
According to the Syrian government forces’ command, 62 servicemen were killed and 100 more injured in an airstrike near the city of Deir ez-Zor. Russian Defense Ministry’s official spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that on Saturday, "from 5pm to 5:50pm near an aerodrome of the Deir ez-Zor city (Syria), the aircraft of ‘anti-IS coalition’ (two F-16 and two A10) delivered four airstrikes at units of Syrian government forces which were surrounded by Islamic State terrorist groupings," Konashenkov noted.
