Media: Syrian military claim shooting down Israeli warplane
The Israeli Defense Forces denies any of its aircraft has been shot down
CAIRO, September 13. /TASS/. Syria’s army claimed they shot down an Israeli warplane and a drone after Israel’s attack on the Syrian army positions in Quneitra, the SANA news agency reported on Tuesday.
"This blatant aggression comes a part of Israel's support for terrorist groups and its attempt to raise their crushed morals after their miserable failure and huge losses in the Quneitra province," the Syrian army said, according to SANA.
The town of Quneitra is located approximately 40 km from the Syrian border.
The Israeli Defense Forces denied any of its aircraft was shot down by the Syrian attack.
There is no information on the fate of the pilot.
The Israel Air Force (IAF) attacked Syrian artillery positions in the Golan Heights in the early hours of Tuesday after the latest episode cross-border shelling that began over the weekend, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.
The IDF did confirm that the Syrian forces had fired two surface-to-air missiles after the Israeli strike on a Syrian position. However, the missiles were nowhere near the vicinity of the Israeli aircraft and all the jets returned to base, according to the Jerusalem Post.
