Russia experts examine new terminal at Cairo airport
Terminal Two of the Cairo air hub that was closed for several years is to reopen in the coming few weeks after an all-embracing overhaul
CAIRO, September 8. /TASS/. A group of Russian experts have examined a new terminal at Cairo international airport, the Egyptian new portal Al Balad said on Thursday.
Terminal Two of the Cairo air hub that was closed for several years is to reopen in the coming few weeks after an all-embracing overhaul.
Egyptian authorities say Cairo international airport's handling capacity will rise to 7.5 million passengers a year.
Early information indicates the biggest number of customers from Russia will be arriving in Cairo and leaving it through Terminal Two after the resumption of flights between Russia and Egypt that were suspended in full last November after an exploson of a A321 of the Russian airline MetroJet in the skies over the Sinai Peninsula. The revamped terminal will most likely service the flights of the Russian national flag carrier Aeroflot.
Also on Thursday, a team of five Russian technical experts checked security systems at the airport and got familiarized with new equipment.
In part, the experts are expected to check the systems for inspection of passengers, hand luggage and baggage and will check the functioning of equipment for the delivery of bags and suitcases to the luggage compartments of airliners, distribution of and control over the cargo in the loading areas.
The Egyptian authorities have instructed the staff of all the airport services to give maximum assistance to the Russian delegation that will stay in Cairo through to September 10.
