German chancellor urges Putin to use his sway to achieve Aleppo truce
Angela Merkel has stressed the importance of establishing truce in Aleppo to allow in humanitarian aid
HANGZHOU, September 5. /TASS/. On Monday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel emphasized the role Russian President Vladimir Putin could play in establishing a truce in Aleppo to allow in humanitarian aid.
"I think Russian President Vladimir Putin could have a major influence on a ceasefire or a temporary cessation of hostilities in order to allow in humanitarian aid for the residents of Aleppo," Angela Merkel told a news conference following the G20 summit in China’s Hangzhou.
"This is extremely important and I made it clear during negotiations," she added. "Active negotiations between the US and Russia are underway and I hope they will soon yield result. We need a more longstanding truce," she stressed.
"Work on this is continuing. Time is short," Merkel noted.
