Uzbek President Islam Karimov has suffered a brain hemorrhage

MOSCOW, August 31. /TASS/. The youngest daughter of Uzbek President Islam Karimov, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, has thanked her fellow citizens for showing their support in her father’s struggle to overcome his serious illness.

In a message posted on her Facebook and Instagram accounts on Wednesday, she congratulated the citizens of Uzbekistan on the occasion of Independence Day celebrated on September 1.

"Let peace and calm always reign over our blessed land as well as tolerance and mutual respect between different nations and confessions that is what our motherland has been famous for centuries," she wrote.

"I would also like to use this opportunity and to thank all of you with all from the bottom of my heart for your kind, sincere and encouraging words of support and wishes for our president’s speedy recovery! This means a lot to us, and I’m sure that this great positive energy coming from the depth of your hearts will help him recover!" the message reads.

On Monday, Karimov’s daughter Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva wrote on her Instagram account that the 78-year-old president had suffered a brain hemorrhage on Saturday and was hospitalized in an intensive care unit in stable condition. Later, some mass media outlets circulated reports that Karimov had died, but no official confirmation followed. Islam Karimov has been the president of Uzbekistan since 1991.
