Russia, US discuss assistance to citizens of Aleppo — diplomat
The consultations in Geneva focus on strengthening the ceasefire regime and joint fight against terrorism
GENEVA, August 9. /TASS/. Russia and the United States are holding consultations in Geneva on Syria to discuss the issues of providing humanitarian assistance to civilians in Aleppo, Russia’s envoy to the UN office and other international organizations in the Swiss city, Aleksei Borodavkin, has told TASS.
The consultations focus on "strengthening the ceasefire regime and joint fight against terrorism," the diplomat said stressing that "the issues of providing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Aleppo are discussed in detail."
Borodavkin said these are "regular consultations" that have been held in Geneva since July 29 following the visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry to Moscow earlier that month.
The delegations meet and then return to their capitals for consultations, and then "come again to work" in Geneva. "This work has good prospects as we see and they [consultations] will continue," the diplomat said.
