CLEVELAND /Ohio/, July 20. TASS/. Billionaire Donald Trump has been formally nominated for the US president from the Republican Party, according to a decision taken by delegates of the party convention underway in Cleveland, Ohio.
The alphabetical roll call vote by delegates from all 50 states, five US overseas territories and the federal District of Columbia on Trump’s candidacy began after 5.30 pm local time on Tuesday (0.30am Moscow Time on Wednesday) and is still going on. Under the party rules, a simple majority of votes (1,237 delegates of 2,472 possible) was required to nominate Trump. The necessary number of votes was secured after slightly more than one hour after the vote began.
Now Trump will have to give his formal consent to run for presidency in the upcoming November election. It is expected that this will happen on Thursday, the last day of the convention.
