Election in Donbass not likely to be held in 2016 — Kiev’s envoy
The possibilities to organize elections in Donbass remain very low
KIEV, July 5. /TASS/. Ukraine thinks local elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) are not likely to be held by the end of 2016, Kiev’s representative in the Contact Group’s political subgroup Olga Ayvazovskaya said on Tuesday.
"Nothing has changed. It means that possibilities and potential to organize elections in separate regions of the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions by the end of the year are very low," UNIAN news agency quoted Ayvazovskaya as saying.
Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andrey Parubiy said earlier that there are no prospects for positive consideration of the draft law on Donbass elections at the Ukrainian parliament.
DPR envoy to the Contact Group Denis Pushilin said on June 30 that local election in Donbass will not be held by the end of 2016. Stalling resolution of political provisions of the package of measures on settling the conflict in Ukraine led to deteriorating security situation and lack of progress in resolving other issues, he said.
