WASHINGTON, June 25. /TASS/. The Group of seven industrialized nations plans to coordinate its actions in the spheres of economy and finances to minimize the possible negative consequences of Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union, according to the agreement reached on Friday by phone by U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The White House reported that Obama and Merkel regret that the UK population made the decision to leave the European Union but respect the will of the British people.

The referendum that took place in Britain on Thursday brought victory to the ‘leave’ camp, which received 51.9% of votes. The number of those who voted against withdrawal from the EU was 48.1%

The results of the plebiscite are no legally binding and can be reviewed by parliament, which may agree or disagree with the popular opinion. Also, the authorities have an opportunity to organize a new referendum.

However, Prime Minister David Cameron said on Friday the government will honor the wish of the British people who opted for a withdrawal from the EU.
