ST.PETERSBURG, June 16. /TASS/. Ukraine’s integration into the North Atlantic Alliance was a mistake for Europe, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Thursday.

"It was a mistake to integrate Ukraine into NATO. I will soon make proposals on this issue," Sarkozy said.

Sarkozy also said Ukraine should not choose between Russia and Europe. "Ukraine is a friend of Russia and should be a friend of Europe," he stressed.
