The anti-terrorist operation in the city of Aktobe continues

ASTANA, June 10. /TASS/. Security services continue an operation to detain those involved in carrying out the terrorist attacks in Aktobe (formerly Aktyubinsk) in western Kazakhstan, the country’s National Security Committee said on Friday.

"The special operation continues," the committee’s press service reported, adding that search is underway for two more terrorists. "The terrorists were moving around the city in two groups. Four of them who were in a dwelling house apartment have been killed. According to the information available at the moment, (the man) who opened fire on a police patrol at an intersection of Myasoedov and Arynov Streets and was eliminated by the police was the terrorists’ accomplice."

"We will inform about the completion of the anti-terrorist operation later," the committee said.

On June 5, a group of criminals attacked gun shops and a National Guard unit in Aktobe, a city located 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Russia’s border. Six people were killed in the attack, including three troops.

According to Kazakhstan’s Healthcare and Social Development Ministry, 38 people sought medical assistance with injuries of varying severity. According to the Interior Ministry, 13 attackers were killed and 14 wounded. Six others were put on the wanted list.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting with head the National Security Committee Vladimir Zhumakanov on June 8 it is necessary to detain all perpetrators of the Aktobe attacks and eliminate them in case of armed resistance.
