The EgyptAir Vice Chairman reverses what he previously said about Flight 804's wreckage being found in the Mediterranean Sea

NEW YORK, May 20. /TASS/. The wreckage of the missing Egyptian A320 plane has not yet been found, EgyptAir Vice Chairman Ahmed Adel confirmed to CNN TV channel on Thursday.

The EgyptAir official has reversed what he previously said about Flight 804's wreckage being found in the Mediterranean Sea. Debris that was found in the sea is not from the plane, Ahmed Adel told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday.

"We stand corrected on finding the wreckage, because what we identified is not a part of our plane. So the search and rescue is still going on," Adel said. Athanasios Binis, the head of the Greek air safety authority, also told Agence France-Presse that the debris is not from any plane and that no Flight 804 wreckage has been found. Earlier, EgyptAir Vice Chairman Ahmed Adel told CNN's Christiane Amanpour that the plane's wreckage had been found near the Greek island of Karparthos.

The EgyptAir A320 plane, en route from Paris to Cairo, disappeared from radars some 280 km off the Egyptian coast. There were 66 people on board: 56 passengers, including three children, and 10 crew members. The lists presented by the air carrier include representatives of 12 countries, most of whom were Egyptian and French nationals. There were no Russian citizens on board.

The search efforts continued throughout the day. Ships and aircraft of Greece, the UK, France, Cyprus, Italy and the United States help the Egyptian Armed Forces to establish the whereabouts of the missing aircraft.
