Poroshenko coordinates positions on OSCE police mission in Donbass with Merkel, Hollande
The Russian president supported the idea to deploy armed officers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) along the disengagement line in eastern Ukraine
KIEV, April 15. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has coordinated positions on deploying a police mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Donbass in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande.
"The sides coordinated their positions on prospects of deploying an OSCE police mission in Donbass," the Ukrainian presidential press service said on Friday.
On April 14, during the annual televised Q&A session officially known as "The Direct Line with Vladimir Putin," the Russian president supported an idea brought forward by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to deploy armed officers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) along the disengagement line in eastern Ukraine.
"Now we should work it out with our Western partners so that the OSCE could adopt such a decision by enlarging the staff and including possible possession of weapons in their mandate if needed," Putin said, noting that he proceeded from the assumption that no intense combat actions would take place in Donbass.
The Ukrainian presidential press service told TASS that Poroshenko has been lobbying the initiative of deploying an OSCE mission in Donbass over the last months both in the "Normandy format" and at Minsk talks.
