Russian diplomat: Panama papers may affect EU’s policy toward Ukraine
According to Russian Ambassador to EU, the offshore revelations created certain controversy in the part on Ukraine and the president personally
MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. The offshore scandal that features Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko may have an effect on European Union’s policy toward Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to EU Vladimir Chizhov told Rossiya 24 TV channel on Friday.
"I think that the European Union is gradually adjusting its policy toward Ukraine," Chizhov said adding that this is happening regardless of the results of the referendum in the Netherlands.
Talking about the Panama papers, the diplomat said that "they created certain controversy in the part on Ukraine and the president personally."
It is becoming obvious for EU that there is no progress with reforms in Ukraine and state funds end up in offshores, he added. "Developments in Ukraine’s east is also a topic open for the public opinion of EU’s countries," he noted.
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) published on Sunday some 11.5 million documents of the Panamanian legal firm Mossack Fonseca revealing "the offshore links of some of the planet’s most prominent people."
