Over 30,000 signatures collected for Saakashvili’s resignation
The initiator of the move is Dmitry Golubov, an MP of the Pyotr Poroshenko Bloc, said Saakashvili has done nothing to improve life of citizens
ODESSA, March 17. /TASS/. More than 30,000 signatures have been collected since March 3 in favor of resignation of Mikhail Saakashvili, the governor of southern Ukraine region Odessa, the Unian news agency reported on Thursday.
The initiator of the move is Dmitry Golubov, an MP of the Pyotr Poroshenko Bloc, said Saakashvili, the ex-Georgian president who was appointed as Odessa governor in May 2015, has done nothing to improve life of citizens.
"He has not built any meter of Odessa-Reni highway, he has torpedoed a plan for customs, his advisers are corrupt, they extort money from entrepreneurs," Golubov said. "Extortion, bribes and corruption - that’s what Saakashvili is famous for."
Local media reports said citing a source in the Ukrainian presidential administration that the decree on Saakashvili’s resignation was signed by the president with "open date." The president’s office is yet to choose a candidate for the new Odessa governor.
Ukraine’s presidential spokesman Svyatoslav Tsegolko has earlier rejected the reports saying that they "do not reflect reality.".
