BEIJING, March 2. /TASS/. The tenth Zika virus cases has been confirmed in China’s southern Guangdong province, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Wednesday.

A 40-year-old resident of the province was infected with the virus. Previously his two children were confirmed to have been infected with Zika. The man has been hospitalized, and his condition remains stable.

Zika virus was isolated in 1947 in the Zika forest of Uganda. Last May, it began to spread rapidly in Brazil, then gaining ground in other countries of South and North America.

The virus, transmitted by mosquitos, causes high temperature, pink eye, headaches and malaise, joint pains, sometimes nausea and stomach pains.

The virus, which has no preventative vaccine, often shows no signs of symptoms in adults but it can be extremely dangerous to unborn children. Medical professionals note special concern for infected pregnant women, whose children risk developing brain-damaging microcephaly.
