Ukraine’s prosecutor general tenders resignation — lawmaker

Earlier on Tuesday, President Petro Poroshenko asked Viktor Shokin to send in his papers

KIEV, February 16. /TASS/. Ukraine’s prosecutor general, Viktor Shokin, has tendered resignation, Mustafa Nayem, a lawmaker with the pro-presidential Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, wrote in his Twitter account on Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Poroshenko asked Shokin to send in his papers.

"Today in the morning, I met with the prosecutor general and had a substantial conversation with him. I asked Viktor Nikolayevich [Shokin] to send in his papers," Poroshenko said in an address to the nation posted on his official website.

The president noted that Shokin had reformed the Ukrainian prosecutor general’s office but failed to win confidence of society. "That is why resignation of the prosecutor general is on the agenda now," he said.
