Poroshenko’s party agrees to overhaul government but wants Yatsenyuk to stay as PM
Several days ago, Ukraine’s parliamentary coalition forces demanded the prime minister report to the Verkhovna Rada about the government’s activities
KIEV, January 31. /TASS/. The Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) suggests the cabinet be completely overhauled with Arseniy Yatsenyuk continuing as prime minister, the faction’s leader Yuri Lutsenko said on Sunday.
"If Arseniy Yatsenyuk can agree on a new team of professionals [government members] who will support the coalition factions, we will have a new Yatsenyuk-led government and an efficient majority to pass necessary laws," he said in an interview with the Inter television channel.
He said he did not support the idea of Yatsenyuk’s resignation as it might entail early parliamentary elections. "We will spend a billion of state funds, we will waste four months of political time to elect the same lawmakers," he said. "We must keep political stability to attract investments and ensure development of the Ukrainian economy. For these ends, we are ready to work with Arseniy Yatsenyuk to have him want work with us."
Lutsenko said his faction was ready "to nominate a new transport minister and other candidates for ministerial positions but it is ready to agree on more professional candidates nominated by other factions." "It is necessary to forge a team of the like-minded who will do concrete reforms," he said, adding that the current government had failed as a single team.
Apart from that, according to Lutsenko, the coalition agreement and the government’s plan of actions needed adjustment.
Several days ago, Ukraine’s parliamentary coalition forces demanded the prime minister report to the Verkhovna Rada about the government’s activities.
Earlier on Sunday, Tatiana Ostrikova, a member the Samopomich (Self-Assistance) faction in the Ukrainian parliament, said her faction had expressed no-confidence to the Arseniy Yatsenyuk government and demanded resignation of the entire cabinet. "The Samopomich faction has taken a decision on no-confidence to this government. We demand resignation of the government, including resignation of the prime minister as a manager who has failed reforms and turned to be unable to lead this government team," she said. She did not rule out that in case the government remained as it was Samopomoshch could quit the majority in the Verkhovna Rada (parliament).
