Turkey denies media reports on assistance to set up Crimean-Tatar battalion

ANKARA, December 29. /TASS/. Ankara is not providing assistance in forming the Crimean-Tatar battalion, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry official spokesman Tanju Bilgic said on Tuesday.
"The allegations in some mass media that this country supported or will support units known as the Crimean-Tatar Battalion or Battalion of Noman Celebicihan to be set up in Kherson, Ukraine, do not reflect reality," the spokesman said in a statement.
Turkish state news agency Anadolu reported on December 18 that former Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Dzhemilev had met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The sides allegedly discussed creation on Ukraine’s territory on the border with Crimea of an armed group controlled by the Mejlis, the highest executive and representative body of the Crimean Tatar people.
