Transdniestria leader calls on opposition not to heat up tension after elections
On November 29, Transdniestria had its first single voting day when elections to the parliament and local authorities were held
TIRASPOL, December 8. /TASS/. Leader of the unrecognized republic of Transdniestria Yevgeny Shevchuk has called on those unhappy with the results of the recent parliamentary elections not to whip up tensions.
"It is high time to calm down after the election fuss and get back to constructive work," Shevchuk said on Tuesday, commenting on the opposition’s protests last week against ‘fabricated,’ as they claimed, elections of November 29. "Today, the state has very important tasks. The most important of them is to stabilize the socio-economic situation with due account of the risks facing the republic." He said this work would be assessed by voters. "They will see who is fanning emotions in the mass media and why it is done," he said.
On November 29, Transdniestria had its first single voting day when elections to the parliament and local authorities were held. The Central Elections Commission as well as observers from Bulgaria, Russia, Serbia and other countries who had monitored the elections recognized them valid.
Despite the fact that most of the candidates took part in the elections were self-nominees, the opposition party Obnovlenie (Renewal) backed by Transdniestria’s biggest holding of private companies, Sheriff, declared its victory at the elections. Experts say the elections results have shaken Shevchuk’s positions before the presidential race in 2016.
