Syrian deputy foreign minister says Assad’s meeting with Putin was historic

TEHERAN, November 5. /TASS/. Syrian President Bashar Assad’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on October 20 was a historic event, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said on Wednesday.
"Assad’s visit to Moscow and meeting with Putin was historic," Mehr News Agency quoted his as saying at a meeting with Iran’s parliament speaker Ali Larijani. "The meeting was critical especially after Russian military action in Syria extending support for president Assad. We assess Russia’s intervention on a stark contrast to US misguided intervention and policies on Syria."
"US-led coalition’s intervention in Syria lacks legitimacy since it is an action against democratically elected president and government; US sought in Syria to lead a war of attrition and destroying Syrian infrastructure. It also sought to secure Zionist regime of threats the regime faces from Syria as an important player of resistance," he stressed.
The Syrian diplomat stressed that his country highly appreciated Iran’s position on the necessity to preserve Syria’s integrity.
Mekdad also praised the communique adopted at the Vienna talks on Syria as an important document for the Syria’s future.
