KIEV, October 29. /TASS/. A candidate who died five days before Sunday’s local polls in Ukraine has been elected to represent the country’s western Rivne region, Segodnya newspaper reported on Thursday.

"The candidate from the Batkivschyna (Fatherland) party died five days before the elections but no one bothered to mark him as ‘deceased’ in the ballot papers," the newspaper said. "Paradoxically, the dead candidate won the voting in his district."

Party members told the newspaper that people were asked to vote for him at the funeral, to pay last respects to the deceased.
