The country hopes for effective work of the high commission on political dialogue between Sudan and South Sudan which will hold talks in Khartoum on November 16

MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. Sudan highly assesses Russia’s efforts as a mediator in inter-Sudanese talks, Vice President Hassabo Mohamed Abdul-Rahman said on Monday at talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.

"We highly value Russia’s mediator efforts in negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan," Abdul-Rahman said. "We are ready and welcome Russia’s further participation in these processes," he added.

The vice president added that Sudan hopes for effective work of the high commission on political dialogue between Sudan and South Sudan which will hold talks in Khartoum on November 16.

Russia hopes for progress in Sudan

Russia hopes that the successful completion of internal political processes in Sudan will help normalize the situation in the country, Lavrov said. "We are closely following the developments in Sudan in the context of national dialogue launched on the initiative of the [Sudanese] president," he noted. "We sincerely wish our Sudanese friends to successfully complete this process, including the adoption of the country’s constitution. We hope that this will allow to stabilize the political situation, normalize relations inside the country, strengthen state institutions, and guarantee rights and freedoms of all Sudanese people," the foreign minister added.

Easing visa regime

Sudan proposes to sign an agreement with Russia on cancelling visa regime for owners of diplomatic passports, Abdul-Rahman said. "We propose to sign an agreement on cancelling visas for owners of diplomatic passports," the vice president said.

"We are serious about continuing to strengthen economic cooperation with Russia," he added. "We thank [Russia] for supplying a batch of wheat and providing loans. We hope that Russia will continue to help in what concerns training experts and professionals from Sudan," Abdul-Rakhman noted.
