Deputy PM: Europe’s migration crisis can be resolved through uprooting sources of problems
"The current immigration crisis stems from the problems in the Middle East and Africa, from the military intervention in Libya," Russian Deputy Prime Minister said
ROME, September 4. /TASS/. The current migration crisis in Europe is rooted in problems in the Middle East and Africa and cannot be resolved without eradicating the source of the migration phenomenon, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said in an interview with Italy’s RAI News 24 television channel.
"The current immigration crisis stems from the problems in the Middle East and Africa, from the military intervention in Libya. There is no solving this crisis without settling these problems," he said.
He voiced Russia’s initiative on creating an international anti-terrorist coalition. "We must pool our efforts at many levels, coordinate our actions but eschew military interference that is fraught with further escalation of violence," the Russian deputy prime minister said.
He told about Russia’s experience in accepting migrants. Thus, he noted, Russia had given shelter to about a million of Ukrainians in the recent months alone.
Dvorkovich is in Italy to take part in an economic forum in the town of Cernobbio, Como Lake. He is expected to speak at a panel meeting dedicated to energy security. He told Rai News 24 that Russia expected more transparency from all countries, both sellers and buyers of energy sources. "For bigger energy security, more transparency is needed from both countries which supply energy sources, from suppliers and from transit countries," Dvorkovich said.
Earlier on Friday, Italy’s Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni spoke at the forum in Cernobbio. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi is expected to attend the forum on Saturday.
