They call on the EU leaders to prevent a full-scale war, to return Ukraine to the negotiation process to ensure a peaceful resolution of the conflict and to end the extermination of the people

MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. Chairmen of the People’s Councils of the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk republics (LPR, DPR) Alexey Karyakin and Andrey Purgin have called on the European Union leaders to return Kiev to the negotiation process.

"We call on the European Union leaders to prevent a full-scale war on our soil and to return Ukraine to the negotiation process to ensure a peaceful resolution of the conflict and to end the extermination of the people of Donbas," says their joint statement published by LuhanskInformCenter.

The speakers of the People’s Councils of the LPR and DPR are asking German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande to give an assessment of the latest statements of the Ukrainian leaders who are not willing to honor the Minsk agreements.

"We would like to know how Mrs. Merkel and Mr. Hollande view the vociferous statements of Poroshenko, Groysman and Parubiy that they do not want to and will not honor the Minsk agreements, that Donbas will not receive a special status even though this is envisaged in the Minsk Package of Measures, that there will be no local elections in Donbass, nor will there be an amnesty for combatants on both sides. But these are also the basic conditions of Minsk-1 and Minsk-2," Karyakin and Purgin noted.

Speakers of the People’s Councils of the Luhansk and Donetsk republics drew the attention of the EU leaders to the fact that Kiev’s policy became apparent during the latest consultations in Minsk on August 3 and 4. "No progress whatsoever, ostentatious obstruction on the part of Ukraine. The failure of a well-prepared issue such as the withdrawal of tanks and mortars, to which the DPR and LPR immediately gave their full consent," Karyakin and Purgin said. "We demand that the EU leaders take active measures to coerce Ukraine to peace and, if necessary, to convene the "Normandy format" summit. We demand that participants in the Ukrainian punitive operation be stopped to save our people from physical extermination."
