Russia’s top diplomat noted that the BRICS member-countries "did not join forces against anybody else"

MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. The decisions, which will be made at the summit of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) in [the capital of Bashkortostan] Ufa, will make it possible to transform the association into one of the key elements of the system of global management, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told representatives of the BRICS Youth Forum on Thursday.

"BRICS, in addition to the economic, pragmatic agenda, has become an influential factor in world politics," he said. "As you know, Ufa will host the association’s summit, which will bring together the leaders of the five countries. The decisions to be made there will make it possible to give fresh impetus to further development of BRICS as one of the key elements of the global management system."

Russia’s top diplomat noted that the BRICS member-countries "did not join forces against anybody else". "On the contrary, we are focusing on promoting the positive unifying agenda," he said. "The joint stance of our countries plays a very important stabilizing role," Lavrov added. "This stance is balanced, it helps find fair approaches to the pressing issues of today."

The format of BRICS should not be bureaucratized with creating an organization with membership cards and headquarters, Sergey Lavrov said.

Lavrov noted the common position of BRICS countries on most international problems and stressed that "everyone [in BRICS] proceeds from the real state of affairs and strengthens agreement on those issues that [the members] really agree on."

"I think this is the best way for our association’s future development," the foreign minister noted. "To announce creation of an organization with membership cards and headquarters is to bureaucratize the cooperation process with which everyone is content for now," he added.

"We need organizational beginnings in order to communicate more comfortably, to prepare documents between the capitals," Lavrov said. "That is why we are setting up a virtual secretariat - on the same principle as an electronic university. It will be an electronic structure, but it will secure communication between head offices in our countries," he added.
